SkillNet
About SkillNet
SkillNet is a talent management software which provides users with the tools and processes to engage employees in their own development. With competency models, 360-degree and self-assessments, individual development plans, coaching and people data, SkillNet aims to help users find and develop experts, increase employee retention and recognize and sustain employee performance.
SkillNet supports a 3 step process which enables users to define and store competency models, set and track career goals with individual development plans and coach employees to solve skill gaps. SkillNet’s digital competency modeling tool and role library allows users to define multiple roles and create a record of skills and knowledge for every role. Users can also create relevant rating scales for each type of competency.
With self assessments and 360-degree assessments, users can rate themselves as well as collect feedback from others on skills and knowledge. SkillNet’s assessments allow users to identify employee strengths and areas for improvement. Individual development plans (IDPs) are generated automatically, based on skills gaps and manager inputs, in order to help users track and manage employee goals. Trend graphs and heatmaps give users actionable data to help coach employees on their personal development.
Further to assessments and IDPs, SkillNet facilitates performance management with succession planning and career and development planning tools along with cascading goals and certification management functionality. SkillNet supports learning with quizzes and tests and promotes employee engagement with gamification and leaderboards.

The team at SkillNet are knowledgeable and a partner in our performance journey. They provide terrific support
Pros
As a virtual team, the tool allows us to easily track goals, skills and provide feedback. The employees like the visibility they have, management likes that this is very easy to use.
Cons
The only thing we would like is an option for an app on the phone. Our people like apps, and having to access via web / internet is not our first choice

In my role as Dean of Student Services at DeVry University's Addison campus one of my most important responsibilities was preparing students for the world of work. It was important for us to provide practical career related work experiences for students and to assist them in documenting and validating their skills both technical and what are generally referred to as soft skills. We were also looking for a way for students to access resources to develop or enhance skills required by employers that were not a part of the academic program. We worked with SkillNet and university faculty to identify a group of students who we thought could be successful in the quickly growing independent contractor sector. DeVry has mostly tech students and most of the independent contractor positions are in technical areas. Skillnet developed for us a proprietary database/platform for our participating students. Through the platform they could access to a number of job boards and bid on local area opportunities. It quickly became apparent that students needed additional support and training so a number of workshops and training sessions were developed. Though the database students could talk to each other about their challenges and successes, arrange to work together and access information on where to get additional skills. Mike Kritzman and his team made adjustments daily as we refined the systems and learned more about our students needs in this new arena. They were a great team to work with, flexible, innovative and willing to try anything.
Pros
It is customizable, expandable and scalable. We only scratched the surface of its capabilities. The ability to validate soft skills, to track skill development and present employers or career services staff with an accurate assessment of an employee's/student's skill set set is terrific. As a non-tech person I found it easy to navigate and the staff support that comes with the software is great.
Cons
No particular cons.

Pros
We value the importance of providing our employees with career path development and training. The platform utilizes a skill based competency model for a specific job position, and stores additional information and project training tutorials in a digital library. Therefore, the platform really allows our employees to measure, develop, and track their own project skills. We view the platform as an effective way to provide our employees with the project management resources and developmental training that they need to be successful at their job!
We really appreciate the capability to customize the platform to better suit our needs. The SkillNet team is knowledgeable, innovative, and open to continuous collaboration. The on-going support has been great and the team is very responsive.
Cons
The customization and implementation of new added features does take some time before it's ready for production.
