Quickbooks keeping you on top!!

Overall, I’m very pleased using desktop version of QuickBooks for our families electrical company versus using the online version for a side real estate business that I manage .

Pros

I love the increased features that QuickBooks desktop has versus the online software version specifically the ability to integrate business bank accounts and I love the ability to back up all files onto a computer instead of online where it’s backed up to a cloud and is at risk for it to be corrupted or lost at any time

Cons

Thing I like least about QuickBooks desktop is all the steps you have to go to in order to open and close the program so that your files always stay up-to-date. I feel like they should implement or create a easier start up and close out function.

I use QuickBooks on a daily basis, super easy to write and print checks, track bills and payment.

Pros

It is super easy to use for a small business and easy to set up, although I would suggest involving your accountant to set up the various expense accounts, etc., to be able to best track your deductible expenses, etc.

Cons

Takes a long time to load, but that is most likely because we have used it for years and years.

Pros

Not friendly . Always issues continuous rebooting . Issues with updates . Spent hours over the years on the phone sorting out issues

Cons

I used quick books desktop for 14 years . Sold out business , and the way I could it to finish year end was to pay them $160/ month . They would not even let me disable the payroll section , even when not needing it anymore . They shut you down immediately and you cannot even go back to review anything you need from the prior 14 years .
They will take your money no problem

Quickbooks Desktop for Everything But Payroll

QuickBooks desktop works for most of my needs except for uploading up to date foreign exchange rates. This feature is only available in the online version. Same thing with payroll which will only be available online as of Q2 2024.

Pros

It is possible to use the same version for several years. The desktop version allows for all required functions except for preparing payroll. It is possible to import bills, create recurring entries, file GST and PST taxes, create and save financial statements all through the desktop version.

Cons

Not the most recent version of QuickBooks, thus when new versions are released, you do not have access to the features.

I've always loved QuickBooks Desktop and have used it for many years for inputting purchase orders, invoices, taxes and payroll. The only complaint I have is when I had to update my version on a new computer and none of my older QuickBooks stuff would transfer over so it all had to be input again. Other than that, it's pretty straightforward.

Pros

What I like most about QuickBooks Desktop is the ease of use and the fact I can easily go back and forth between purchase orders and invoices.

Cons

Once upon a time I had an older version of QuickBooks and when I got a new computer I had to put a new version of QuickBooks Desktop on it and none of my previously saved stuff for my business would convert over to the new version.

Overall, we had a good experience using Quickbooks Desktop!

Pros

Most parts of the program were easy to use!

Cons

When Quickbooks forced their small business owners to Quickbooks Online, it was not an easy process. Forcing that kind of switch in the middle of a year, was less than convenient, especially when our company file was too big to transfer anything but out customers and vendor lists.

We used it while we were a smaller local business to handle the accounting side of our business (invoices, bank account management, payments, issue reports for our CPA, etc) as well as for inventory and pay roll.

Pros

It's intuitive and very comprehensive. User friendly and easily accessible from mobile devices

Cons

If you have too many users it becomes pricey, it's more suitable for smaller businesses than for larger ones. We had to switch when we became corporate because Quickbooks was not cost effective for us anymore

QuickBooks Desktop Premier is a solid accounting tool with many options to manage your company fil.

It's expensive, however it is priced well compared to other vendors.

Pros

Been using QuickBooks Desktop Premier for 10+ years
It manages all of our company files, the back up process is easy, allows for payroll, includes tax updates

Cons

The biggest con with QuickBooks Desktop Premier is the constant updating that is required. Even though you set the updates to be automatic, it just does not work. You must manually go and "get updates" for each PC that you have the software installed on as well as the server.

This has happened to all the QB Versions I have used over the past 10 years.
When I do mention this to QB Support (every year aft the new version is released) they always claim oh that should not happen!!

I have been using QB desktop software since 2008. I have used few other programs and hope that the desktop versions stays available as the QBO is NOT idea for me.

Pros

The features in a software as opposed to QBO are unmatched! It's easy to move around the software & enter data, create invoices, pay bills & create reports. I LOVE the desktop version as it allows the user to quickly perform tasks.

Cons

I do NOT like that the software changed the 1099 prep feature to an interview process. I know what I need to do & the original feature was quicker, cleaner and easier to use.

Long time user and still loving it

Reviewed on 20/01/2024

Pros

Biggest pro is that it is NOT QuickBooks online. I am still amazed that Intuit put out a product called "accounting software"... but dumbed it down so that it is barely that. I try to keep all my clients on a desktop version, as it is so preferable to me, especially when t comes to reporting, credit memos and vendor credits.

Cons

The only con is that it has now gone to an annual subscription fee - and a high one at that! And the threats it will be sunsetted keep coming. I sure hope not. The day Intuit discontinues their desktop products is the day I move my clients to Sage and NetSuite. I will NOT be moving them to that piece of crap "accounting" software QBO. No "accounting software" uses terms like "who owes you" for AR and "what you owe" for AP! If you don't know those 2 terms - don't use an "accounting" software!

Served it's purpose for the first few years and is a little clunky for a small owner operator business, but full of lots of features for the medium to larger business.

Pros

Much cheaper than the monthly online subscription, and was able to teach myself most of the functions necessary to do my own bookkeeping

Cons

No automatic back up like using the online version. A little confusing about where payments received or statement/receipts go to "unapplied funds" but then you have to select each payment in deposits. Balancing each account is not intuitive like in online version. If you don't create back up file, and have data loss (happened to me) it's a pain to recreate everything for a year. Also, if you run a mobile business like mine, you have to manually enter receipts and invoices.

I enjoyed it and was reluctant to move away from QB Desktop. We have moved to QB Online very recently because we kept hearing that Intuit intends to discontinue Desktop Pro and Premium, and they moved the price to an annual subscription price rather than a product purchase price which made the cost very high. the [sensitive content hidden] also wanted to switch. I had resisted for some time because QB Desktop was so functional, easy to work with, and I knew it well. It is for this reason that I don't recommend Desktop any more unless you are a large enterprise, or want to spend the money for Desktop Enterprise. We didn't have the need, nor desire to spend that money.

Quickbooks Online has much improved functionality and I quickly found myself liking it, to my surprise. I still don't like Intuit support. I do like their products.

Pros

I could figure out almost everything about it. I liked access to multiple windows open so that I could go between tasks/reports quickly. I was very familiar with this project having used it on and off for 20 years. I liked customizing reports.

Cons

Importing credit card data was frustrating at times. The functionality was ok, though problematic and times. I could work around it.
