HashiCorp Consul
About HashiCorp Consul
HashiCorp Consul is an open-source networking software designed to help organizations connect and secure distributed applications and services across any public or private cloud and all runtime platforms. Features include network segmentation, configuration management, mesh gateway, key and value storage, and load balancing.
HashiCorp Consul provides a service discovery feature, which enables users to locate applications or infrastructure services via HTTP and DNS to facilitate network connectivity and routing. Engineers can utilize the health check functionality to determine if a service is able to receive traffic or handle requests, letting them direct routing requests to other systems as necessary. It also helps administrators manage visitor traffic from multiple endpoints and improve application resiliency by applying various traffic management methods such as service failover, path-based routing, and traffic shifting. With HashiCorp Consul’s centralized configuration capabilities, users can gain insight into application behavior and performance through networking metrics, distributed tracking, and logging via proxies.
The software offers integration with various third-party platforms such as AppDynamics, Circonus, PagerDuty, Cloudentity, VMware Tanzu, Vault, Google Cloud Platform, and more. HashiCorp Consul also supports multiple datacenters, which helps organizations prevent downtime and improve data recovery during connectivity issues or datacenter failure.

My go to Service Mesh for K8S
Reviewed on 15/02/2022
Pros
I've used consul in the past to migrate from LoadBalancers to NGINX and the console made it easy to list all services and backend ports. By creating templates we use it to get dynamic inventories for Ansible instead of static addresses.
Cons
Not a complain at all but some clients have ticketing systems like ServiceNow and will be nice to have integration from Consul discovery to the ServiceNow CMDB

Excellent product to implement Ingress and Service Discovery
Reviewed on 24/01/2023
Pros
Once the setup and configuration is done, by adding a few labels to your deployments you have service discovery fully implemented.
Cons
Complexity, and sometimes there's some network-related setup that is not easy to detect that will make Consul to not work properly, and in such cases it is very difficult to determine the root cause
